Beekeepers,

The next Indy Southside Beekeepers Club meeting will be Tuesday, June 4, 2024 from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. Meetings are held at the Franklin Township Civic League office, 8822 Southeastern Avenue, Indianapolis, IN 46239.

Please check your calendars and let me know if you will be able to volunteer at the Wanamaker Old Settlers Day Street Fair on June 30th. This is a great opportunity for new beekeepers to learn more and to get to know other Club members. You don't have to be well versed, just willing to help out. We will also need to coordinate honey sellers and bee sure that honey is correctly labeled. Please let me know if you are going to sell honey. For the Street Fair we will need 10x10 canopies, a couple of tables and a volunteer for the observation hive.

This month's agenda will include a discussion on queens - Please bring your expertise and share your experiences.

When do you requeen? (bad queen, dead queen, annually, etc.)

How do you requeen? (buy a queen, use eggs from her hive, use eggs from a preferred hive)

When do you mark a new queen? (as soon as you see her? after she lays?)

How do you mark the queen? Please bring your tools for queen marking. Can someone bring some drones for practice? (dead or alive)

Another agenda item includes what should we be doing with our colonies in June? Please send your suggestions for this month’s agenda and your suggestion of June tasks to me by Saturday June 1, 2024. I'll send out an agenda on Sunday June 2.

We will also need volunteers for the State Fair Day (8/7) and the Southeastway Park Bug Fest (8/25)
