The next Indy Southside Beekeepers Club meeting will be Tuesday, August 6, 2024 from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. Meetings are held at the Franklin Township Civic League office, 8822 Southeastern Avenue, Indianapolis, IN 46239.

2. Safety & Beekeeping - there are lots of things that can go wrong, please bring your beekeeping tips and safety recommendations to share.

3. What happened to my hive??? Daniel Karagory had a recent hive loss, here is his story:

"A couple weeks ago my hives died almost entirely overnight. One of them wasn't doing so great and I'd been trying to help it out for a while, so I wasn't exactly surprised. The other hive, though, was doing great. I had done a full inspection the week before and it looked great with brood and everything. I even have a picture of it the night before showing them in what I thought was great condition, but by the morning there was a pile of dead bees on the entrance. I was able to open the hive a couple days later and the inside was packed with 20 times as many dead on the bottom (and far above that). I have no idea what could have caused this and I'd like to see what the rest of the club thinks and how I could prevent it in the future. I'm of course very sad over this situation, I thought that hive was doing great this year." Bring your thoughts and recommendations for Daniel.

4. Preparing for winter - when do I start condensing hives? supers? When should I do my last harvest? When do I feed? What do I feed? I heard I'm supposed to leave a box for the bees, is that the second deep or a super on top of the deeps? Can I leave too many boxes on the hive? When do I add the candy board & quilt box? When and what type of mite treatment do I do? If I have only 1 deep box will they make it through the winter?

5. State Fair Volunteers - Thank you for volunteering, we'll be distributing parking passes and admission tickets after the meeting.
