The next Indy Southside Beekeepers Club meeting will be Tuesday, May 7, 2024 from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. Meetings are held at the Franklin Township Civic League office, 8822 Southeastern Avenue, Indianapolis, IN 46239.

This month's agenda includes -

1. Swarm catching. Jerry Zimmerman will present his talk from the Heartland Apicultural Society on capturing swarms. It's definitely swarm season and I've had several people as about seeing the equipment used. So, bring your equipment in and give us a mini demonstration on how it's used.

2. Okay, now you have a swarm, how to you put it (or a nuc or a package) into a hive box? How to prepare a deep, what do you need to do the first week (or not do). Do you feed? Do you treat? Do you put them in a deep body or let the nuc sit in its nuc box for a couple of days? What works for Club members?

2. Wanamaker Old Settler's Day Street Fair - June 30, 2024 - need 10 workers and honey sellers, (10 including honey sellers)
3. Southeastway Park Bug Fest - August 25, 2024 – noon to five, need minimum of 8 workers. Plan 11:45a – 5:15p
4. Indiana State Fair - will need 18-20 volunteers. 1/2 for morning shift and half for evening shift.
5. Buy/Sell nucs - we have requests for 8 nucs. If you have some ready to sell let me know and I'll match you up with a buyer.

7. Future topics - labeling and selling honey

We've had a request to talk about queens In June. Do I have a volunteer to bring their tools and explain how to grow your own queens? Let's discuss queen rearing, marking queens, queen markers, queen inspections (what am I looking for??), how do I know that a queen should be replaced, etc. We'd like this to have some demonstration as well as a show and tell to be very interactive. Can someone bring some drones and demonstrate marking a queen?
